Cantautore inglese ispirato dal punk come dal folk di protesta di autori quali Woody Guthrie, Billy Bragg muove i primi passi nel gruppo punk Riff Raff alla fine degli anni '70, per poi intraprendere un'attivita' solista nel decennio successivo, quando diventa popolare in Gran Bretagna con le sue canzoni che trattano con spirito critico ed ironia, ma anche umanita', temi politici, sociali e sentimentali. Politicamente molto attivo ed avverso al conservatorismo della Tatcher, Bragg ha spesso coniugato la sua attivita' musicale con quella politica. Fra i suoi album, citiamo il primo ''Brewing up with Billy Bragg'' (1984), ''Talking with the taxman about poetry'' (1986) e ''Don't try this at home'' (1991); successivamente si avvale del contributo di una backing band, rendendo la sua musica leggermente piu' elettrica, come gli Wilco alla fine degli anni '90 e successivamente i suoi Blokes. | |||||||
